Ryanair in new Lubeck deal

Ryanair has announced a deal to base up to four new 737 planes and deliver up to two million passengers per annum to Lubeck Airport in northern Germany, which serves the city of Hamburg.

The deal was made with Infratil, an international airport an infrastructure investor, which owns Wellington International Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

This agreement is subject to the completion of a conditional purchase agreement between Infratil and the City of Lubeck.

Ryanair says it will invest more than $250m (€194.4m) in the aircraft and create 200 new jobs in Lubeck. The proposed increase in traffic would push Lubeck into the top 10 international airports in Germany.

The airline’s COO and deputy CEO Michael Cawley said: “This new base would make Lubeck Airport the low-cost gateway to Lubeck and the entire region of northern Germany, and would promote tourism access to the region for UK and European visitors.”
