US government prosecutors have confirmed for the first time they are conducting a criminal investigation of former Daily Telegraph boss Conrad Black, his former top deputy David Radler and Black’s company, Hollinger Inc.

The government acknowledged the investigation in court papers in which it asked to intervene in a US Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit filed in November against newspaper tycoon Black, Radler and Hollinger Inc.
