Cairn update lifts shares

Cairn Energy showed its ability to strike oil was undiminished today by revealing that an Indian oilfield was bigger than previously thought.

Shares in the Edinburgh-based company leapt 6% on news that the first well drilled to the northwest of its development site in Rajasthan had yielded “very strong” results.
