The ISEQ index made modest gains today, rising 15.36 points to 6514.95.

The ISEQ index made modest gains today, rising 15.36 points to 6514.95.

Budget carrier Ryanair built on recent gains, adding 23c to €6.50.

The financials were mostly down. Shares in Allied Irish Bank rose 1c to €15.44 while shares in Bank of Ireland slipped 3c to €12.22.

Anglo Irish Bank's share price fell back 7c to €18.65 while Irish Life & Permanent shares slipped 10c to €14.

Food giant Glanbia climbed 5c to €2.97 today following the announcement Glanbia is set to take on CMP from Dairygold in a €10.05m deal, subject to approval from the Irish Competition Authority.

Glanbia will operate the milk, cream and juice brands of CMP (Cork Milk Producers).

Meanwhile pharmaceutical group Elan has slipped back 31c today to €21 following yesterday's spectacular 85c gains.
