New airport hotel to create 150 jobs

A €35m four star hotel is to check in at Dublin Airport creating 150 jobs, it emerged today.

The new Hilton will open its doors in summer 2005 at Northern Cross, the planned new town eight kilometres from the city centre.

The 166 bedroom Hilton Dublin Airport is being built as part of a €350m development including apartments and retail and business parks.

David Webster, hotel general manager, said the move was part of continued development strategy across the country.

“We are currently looking at three additional options in key locations around the country,” he said.

“The Hilton Dublin Airport has been designed with the business traveller in mind with its top class meeting and conference services.”

The hotel will house conference and meeting facilities including a function suite for 300 people and nine fully serviced meeting rooms with a business centre.

The Hilton chain already operates three hotels on the island with hotels in Dublin, Belfast city centre and Templepatrick, Co Antrim. The company operates 394 hotels worldwide, and employs over 70,000 staff in 78 countries.

Patrick Veale, managing director of site developers PJ Walls Group, said the hotel was a much-needed boost for the area.

“We are very proud that it will be Irish owned and run by a professional and experienced Hilton management team.

“We believe that the close proximity to Dublin Airport, the M50 and M1 will make it a very accessible and desirable new hotel location.”
