US firm to begin recruiting 100 new workers in Loughrea

A US insurance firm is planning to recruit 100 workers at its plant in Loughrea, Co Galway, over the next 12 months.

The recruitment is part of an expansion announced by CIGNA in March 2003.

The company said at the time that the expansion would create 220 jobs in the locality.

Speaking at the opening of expanded Loughrea facility today, Junior Minister Noel Treacy said 60 of these jobs had already been filled and a further 100 workers would be recruited over the coming 12 months.

He said CIGNA also hoped to hire an additional 60 employees by mid-2006.
