Labour: MediaLab closure needs to be investigated

The Taoiseach has been accused of ignoring expert advice by investing heavily in the doomed digital research centre, MediaLab Europe.

Almost €36m of taxpayers' money has gone into the project that announced its planned closure yesterday.

The Labour Party is calling for an investigation by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

The Party's Finance Spokesperson Joan Burton says MediaLab failed to attract any investment from top multinational companies based in Ireland.

She said that the first question that needs to be asked is how the project was unable to find sponsorship for its research when we have top international companies such as Intel and Microsoft located in Ireland.
