EasyJet launches two new routes from Belfast

Low-cost airline easyJet today announced two new routes from Belfast to the Continent.

Flights from Belfast International Airport to Rome and Berlin are due to begin in July.

The announcement brings the total of easyJet’s European flights from Belfast to eight.

Last month the company announced three new routes – to Geneva in Switzerland, Palma in Majorca, and Inverness in Scotland.

It also operates flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Malaga and Alicante.

EasyJet chief operating officer Ed Winter welcomed the new routes.

“We now operate nine aircraft from our Belfast base which accounts for 12% of easyJet’s total operation, and with three million passengers a year we are committed to continue being Northern Ireland’s largest low-cost airline,” he said.

Managing director of Belfast International Airport, Albert Harrison, said the addition of Berlin’s Schoenefeld Airport and Rome’s Ciampino Airport had enhanced air links between the province and the rest of Europe.

“It is particularly pleasing to introduce new services to two of Europe’s principal capital cities in previously unserved major markets from Northern Ireland,” he said.

“We now have a network which offers real opportunity to develop the Northern Ireland economy and we look forward to working with easyJet to develop these and other routes over the coming year.”
