The Central Statistics Office has reported a 7.6% increase in the number of new cars registered in Ireland in the first 11 months of this year.

The CSO said 227,738 new private cars were licensed between January and November, compared to 211,643 in the same period last year.

However, the number of new cars registered last month alone was slightly below the figure for November 2003.

The CSO said the most popular new cars in November were Fords, Opels, Toyotas, Volkswagens, Peugeots and Nissans.
