ISEQ slips back as financials fade

The ISEQ has closed the week on a slightly negative note, slipping back 15.04 to finish the day at 6,174.49.

Many financial stocks fared poorly today.

While Allied Irish Bank shares held at €14.90, shares in Bank of Ireland fell 11c to €12.03. Shares in Anglo Irish Bank were unchanged at €17.90 but Irish Life & Permanent, which yesterday announced it was set to reach market expectations, fell 10c.

Meanwhile the Irish Takeover Panel has given building materials group Grafton an extension for the deadline of its offer for Heiton. Shares in Grafton slipped 5c to €8.20 today.

Shares in pharmaceutical giant Elan finished the week strongly, climbing 20c to €20.20.

Budget airline Ryanair saw shares fell 16c to €5.32 today.

The most traded shares today were Bank of Ireland, CRH, Irish Life & Permanent, Anglo Irish Bank and Kingspan.
