The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey, today formally signed contracts for the construction of six Metropolitan Area broadband Networks (MANs).

The six are in Monaghan, Cavan, Drogheda, Dundalk, Carrickmacross and Kingscourt.

Two towns in each county will benefit from the construction of high-speed fibre optic rings that will enable the delivery of broadband to businesses, homes, schools and hospitals.

The total investment in the six towns will be €13.4m, which is 90% grant aided by the Government and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the NDP 2000-2006.
