Report: 70% of insurance industry reforms implemented

The Motor Insurance Advisory Board has published its final report.

It includes details of the progress of the Government's action plan to reform the insurance industry.

The report shows that 52 out of the 67 motor insurance advisory board recommendations have been either fully or partially implemented.

Included in the boards list of recommendations is the appointment of one Minister who would have overall responsibly for motor, employer and public liability insurance.

It is also recommending that there be continued emphasis on road safety and accident prevention with the introduction of a traffic corps which could also undertake forensic accident investigation and the establishment of an independent legal services Ombudsman to protect the interests of consumers.

The Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment Micháel Martin has said the action plan had lead to significant savings for motorists but that there was plenty of scope for further reductions.
