Closing time at Bewley's

Bewley’s cafés on Grafton Street and Westmoreland Street in Dublin are due to close their doors for the final time this evening.

The Campbell Bewley Group has decided to close the two branches because of mounting losses and increased competition.

Bewley’s have been operating cafes in Dublin since 1884.

More than 200 workers have already left since the company announced the closure in October, and many others are expected to be given other jobs within the group.

Regular customers of Bewley’s city centre outlets have mounted a campaign to save them from closure and are due to hold a number of events on Grafton Street this evening.
