Kodak tonight said it was closing five photographic laboratories in the UK with the loss of about 500 jobs.

The US group said it would close photo finishing labs at Northampton, Glasgow, Walsall, Wimbledon and Portishead near Bristol in the next 12 months.

The cuts are part of Kodak’s strategy to focus on digital photography in the face of declining demand for traditional camera film.

The group said last month that it was axing 600 jobs in the UK and closing a factory in Nottingham.
