Takeover rumours eases FTSE's fall

Takeover speculation outside the top flight helped to set the pulses of investors racing on an otherwise dour day for the FTSE 100 Index.

Heavy trading was seen in shares of no-frills airline easyJet and fire equipment group Kidde, with both groups registering gains of more than 16%.
