Argos to create 1,200 jobs for Xmas rush
Catalogue retailer Argos said today it was creating hundreds of temporary jobs in Ireland in the run-up to Christmas.
Argos, owned by GUS, said it would need about 20,000 extra people to man its 570 stores in both Britain and Ireland.
800 retail jobs will be available in the Republic of Ireland and more than 400 in Northern Ireland.
It added it would recruit further workers and drivers for its warehouses and distribution network.
Argos said the Christmas recruitment campaign was its biggest ever, representing a 10% increase on the number of temporary staff it employed last year.
Managing director Sara Weller said: “It’s absolutely key that we have enough staff to help with the increase in demand we generally see during the festive season.
“We’re committed to constantly improving our service to customers and that is why temporary staff are so vital at this time.”
