The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed slightly down after the opening trading of the week, slipping 7.09 to 5,632,.48.

The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed slightly down after the opening trading of the week, slipping 7.09 to 5,632,.48.

Shares in Allied Irish Bank fell 7c today to €13.50 but Bank of Ireland was unchanged at €11.02 today. Anglo-Irish Bank shares rose 8c to €15.03 while Irish Life & Permanent was also unchanged, closing today at €12.75.

Elsewhere shares in building materials giant CRH made a positive start today, climbing 22c, but it eventually closed at its opening price of €19.41.

Shares in Grafton climbed 8c while Heiton shares were down 2c.

Elsewhere Elan shares fell 18c today to €18.92 while Ryanair shares fell 1c to €1.58. Ryanair today announced the launch of its winter-ski 2004 website.

Meanwhile it was a much more satisfactory day for Unidare. Unidare shares surged 15c to €2.00 today. The board of the company said today results for the year ending September 30 are set to exceed expectations with profits climbing almost €3m from last year.

Viridian shares have been unchanged at €9.10. Viridian today announced the construction of a second power plant at its Huntstown site, north of Dublin. The €250m project will be completed during 2007.

The most traded stocks today were Bank of Ireland, AIB, CRH, Irish Life & Permanent and Eircom.
