MasterCard Europe has named Bank of Ireland as one of three winners of the European co-brand partner of the year award for its Special Olympics Advantage MasterCard credit card.
Bank of Ireland won the award for "Best Launch in 2003 / 2004" for its co-branded Special Olympics card.
The Advantage card initiative was selected from over 2,500 MasterCard co-brand programmes in Europe.
When it launched, Bank of Ireland’s Advantage credit card was the first in Ireland to offer 0% APR on purchases and donated 0.2% of the value of purchases to the Special Olympics World Games.
The Games, held in Ireland for the first time last year, were hugely successful thanks to the thousands of people who ‘shared the feeling’.
Bank of Ireland’s credit card programmes raised over €1m.
Kevin Murphy, Managing Director, Card & Loans Business, Bank of Ireland said: "The Special Olympics World Summer Games really captured the hearts and minds of the Irish people.
"Bank of Ireland was delighted to be able to offer its support as premier sponsor of the games through valuable initiatives like the Special Olympics Advantage credit card.
"Receiving this award from MasterCard is a real honour for the team who worked on this wonderful programme."
Commenting on the win, Linda Reid, Account Director, MasterCard Ireland said: "This is the first time we’ve introduced the MasterCard co-brand partner of the year awards to Europe, and it’s clear that Bank of Ireland have set the stage for excellence and innovation in co-branding in the years to come."
