UK house prices fell for the first time in more than a year during August as buyers responded to three interest rate rises in four months, research showed today.

UK house prices fell for the first time in more than a year during August as buyers responded to three interest rate rises in four months, research showed today.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors said the market had experienced an abrupt slowdown since May, as househunters were “knocked off balance” by the rising cost of borrowing and warnings over a sharp downturn in prices.
