CCI welcomes carbon tax rejection
The Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI) today welcomed the Government decision not to introduce a tax on carbon emissions.
CCI Policy Executive Robert O’Shea said: “While we welcome the decision by the Government not to introduce a carbon tax, we are not surprised. It is clear from the overwhelming negative response to the proposals that the carbon tax proposal was not a cost-effective method of reducing carbon emissions."
He said that the Government's decision not to introduce a carbon tax should in fact have been made earlier given the "overwhelming negative response".
CCI has called on the Government to provide a clear direction to environmental policies to address the Kyoto targets.
