Workers at Tara Mines in Co Meath are meeting today to discuss new management proposals aimed at ending a long-running dispute over a range of issues.

The proposals relate to sick pay, pensions, holiday entitlements and improvements to the workers’ bonus scheme, as well as the reintroduction of contract work.

The workers, members of SIPTU, were due to be balloted on strike action next week. It is unclear whether today’s proposals will lead to a cancellation of that ballot.

The re-introduction of contract work led to a two-day strike at Tara Mines during the summer.
