BMI raises fuel surcharge
Another UK airline today increased its fuel surcharge because of the rise in oil prices.
Bmi (formerly British Midland Airways) said that, with immediate effect, its surcharge on its six long-haul routes would rise from £5 (€7.41) for a return flight to £12 (€17.78).
The new charge applies to all fares purchased in the UK for travel on bmi services from Manchester to the USA (Chicago, Washington and Las Vegas), and the Caribbean (Barbados, Antigua and St Lucia).
The £5 fuel surcharge for short-haul journeys will remain the same.
The airline said: “Bmi will continue to monitor the fluctuations in worldwide oil prices closely with a view to reviewing the surcharge as and when appropriate.”
The move by bmi follows similar fuel surcharge increases announced recently by British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Today, Air France announced that it, too, was increasing its fuel surcharge.
