UCC awards Viridian electricity contract
University College Cork has awarded electricity supply rights for its Lee Maltings complex to the competitive power supplier Energia.
In addition Energia has secured the supply rights for green electricity to a number of other University sites.
The Lee Maltings complex houses academic departments and the National Microelectronics Research Centre (NMRC), a leading ICT research Institute.
With over 14,500 students and 1,700 staff, UCC’s electricity requirement across its main campus and related facilities is in the order of 2.5MW per annum, the supply equivalent of over 8,000 homes.
Part of Viridian Group, Energia supplies power from the €250m power plant at Huntstown in Dublin and has offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast.
