ISEQ up as Elan soars

In Dublin today, the ISEQ index closed up 8.44 points at 5415.31.

There was good news for Elan today, as a wholly-owned subsidiary, Neuralab Limited, received the US patent for new research into Alzheimer’s disease. The group’s share price reflected this, climbing 34c to close at €20.22.

AIB closed down 7c at €12.30, while Bank of Ireland also showed a loss, down 4c at €10.55. Anglo was down a more significant 12c at €12.81. Irish Life & Permanent also fell, finishing the day down 6c at €12.59.

Mining and exploration company Kenmare Resources closed down 1c at 24c, despite the company’s announcement of another €15m raised for its Moma titanium project in Mozambique.

Low-fares airline Ryanair gained 2c to €4.71, on a day when Head of Communications Paul Fitzsimmons announced impressive punctuality figures.
