Knock Airport records rise in passenger numbers

Knock Airport has announced record half-year passenger figures today.

The number of passengers using the airport between January and June 2004 jumped to 158,391, an increase of 55% compared to the same period last year.

The period also saw the airport enjoy the busiest day in its history, with over 2,260 passengers using the airport on May 27.

Commenting on the latest figures, Liam Scollan, Chief Executive of Knock International Airport said: “We are delighted with the record increase in half-year passenger numbers at Knock International Airport.

"We are on track to achieve our target of 400,000 passengers this year and look forward to welcoming more and more passengers to the modern, state-of-the-art facilities at Ireland’s fastest growing and ‘Best Regional Airport’.”

In May, Knock International Airport’s new €1m extension to the arrivals area was opened.

The arrivals area has been expanded to accommodate additional routes and increasing passenger numbers using the airport, and complements the new €2m departures area opened earlier in the year.

In June, the airport was awarded the inaugural ‘Best Regional Airport’ Award by the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland’s Air Transport Users Council (ATUC).

Three new daily routes to Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham-East Midlands, commenced during the period and the airport announced, for the first time ever, the introduction of skiing holidays from Knock to Andorra in Winter 2004, in partnership with Panorama.

Knock International Airport now offers seven daily scheduled flights to and from Dublin, Birmingham, London Stansted, Manchester, Nottingham East Midlands and Liverpool.
