Green demands pension fund answers

Retail tycoon Philip Green has written to the Marks & Spencer’s pension trust to express his concern at its “apparent decision” not to meet him, it emerged tonight.

Mr Green, whose third takeover approach for M&S was rejected yesterday, has demanded details on the pension fund during the battle for control of the high street giant.

In a letter addressed to pension trust chairman David Norgrove, Mr Green said he needed urgent answers to questions on the scheme if he was to be in a position to proceed with an offer.

He said the decision “apparently taken” by Mr Norgrove and his fellow trustees to decline to meet him was “astonishing” and could frustrate his ability to acquire M&S.
