Financials, construction sector hamper ISEQ
Dublin's Iseq stumbled to a 5.28 rise closing at 5,445.67, as the financial and construction sectors both finished in the red today.
The majority of the financials fell - AIB down 3c to €12.48, Anglo Irish Bank down 5c to €12.70 and Bank of Ireland down 6c to €10.71 - with Irish and Life and Permanent the only climber by 8c to €12.38.
The construction sector was also in the negative with all except Heiton Group, up 3c to €6.56, showing a fall. The biggest faller was Abbey who tumbled 25c to €8.10, followed by Grafton who fell 16c to €6.48. McInerney and Kingspan showed a more modest decrease of 5c each to €5.18 and €4.88 respectively.
Building materials group CRH bucked the general trend by rocketing 20c to €17.68, while rival Readymix was stable at €1.58.
Iona was the other major riser in Dublin, climbing 15c to €3.15.
London's FTSE finished down 17.3 points at 4407.4, while the Dow Jones was at 10,273.84, a fall of 60.32, at 6pm today.
