Insurer Standard Life reported a flat first half today after seeing overseas growth outweigh slower UK business.

The group, which has announced controversial plans to demutualise, said total annual premium equivalent (APE) – a key measure of new business among insurers - in its UK life and pensions business fell 11% against the first half of 2003.
