Supermarket chain Asda today announced it was creating more than 570 new jobs in Britain through an expansion of its in-store jewellery, photographic and optical departments.

Supermarket chain Asda today announced it was creating more than 570 new jobs in Britain through an expansion of its in-store jewellery, photographic and optical departments.

About 320 jobs will be created with the opening of 40 new Photo Centres at a cost of £6m (€8.9m).

The centres offer digital and standard photo processing, plus cameras and accessories.

A further 174 jobs will be generated with 29 new jewellery departments and an investment of £1m (€1.49m).

Finally, 77 jobs have been created with the decision to open 11 further optical departments which provide a range services from contact lens fitting to eye tests.

David Miles, business unit director for speciality at Asda, said: “More people than ever before will be able to take advantage of our fantastic jewellery ranges, professional optical services and the latest technology in photo printing and cameras, all at everyday low prices.”
