US telecoms group to lay off 1,100
US telecommunications group Sprint is to cut 1,100 jobs.
The continuing price war in the business market for long distance services, has been blamed for the 6% reduction in the workforce and reflects Sprint's battle with AT&T and MCI for market share.
Sprint said about 850 jobs would be cut from its Sprint Business Solutions unit, while another 250 jobs would go from functions including IT that support the division.
Analysts believe that the phone company should benefit from the job losses as its long distance business accounts for just 16% of revenues.
