MFI at centre of takeover talk

Speculation that British home furnishings retailer MFI could be taken over and broken up swirled around the City today as shares leapt 4%.

Managers are thought to be preparing a buyout that could herald the demerger of its Howden Joinery arm or the sale of its UK retail operations, analysts said.
