ISEQ up on dramatic day for top companies

The ISEQ closed up 32.91 points at 5225.55 today.

Scandal-rocked bank AIB performed well, closing up 27c, or 2.33%, at €11.87. Bank of Ireland, whose chief executive resigned dramatically at the weekend, also showed a significant gain, up 38c, or 3.92%, at €12.95.

In the other financials, Anglo closed down 5c at €12.95, while Irish Life & Permanent dropped 7c to €12.38.

Fyffes climbed 3c, or 1.87%, to close at €1.63, after the group’s shareholders were told of a positive start to the year at today’s AGM. It was announced at the meeting that former AIB chief executive Gerry Scanlan will retain his seat on the Fyffes board, despite being named in connection with an offshore scandal.

Construction company Kingspan closed down 10c, or 2.06%, at €4.75, following the resignation of Tom Mulcahy from the company’s board. Mr Mulcahy also stepped down as chairman of Aer Lingus at the weekend, after he was also involved in AIB’s recent drama.

Bookmaker Paddy Power saw a drop of 20c, or 2.11%, to €9.30.

The London markets were closed for a bank holiday.
