British aerospace group BAE Systems today downplayed claims that it was in talks to take a 40 per cent stake in helicopter maker AgustaWestland.

BAE said it was unaware of negotiations reportedly taking place with Italian enineering group Finmeccanica that could hand it a share in Agusta worth up to £400m (€599m).
