Citylink calls for further deregulation of bus market

Coach operator Citylink will begin a Galway-Shannon Airport intercity service from next Monday.

Four services will operate in both directions, leaving Galway from 6am until 4pm and Shannon Airport from 8.30am until 7.30pm daily.

The timetable has been integrated with the flight arrival and departure schedule at Shannon Airport.

Commenting on the return of the route, Mr Allen Parker, managing director of Citylink said: "I am delighted to announce the re-introduction of this route.

"I would like to thank all of the local businesses and customers for the support that we have received in the last few months. We have worked closely with Shannon Airport to tailor this service to meet customer requirements and its introduction will significantly improve the transportation links between Shannon Airport and Galway.

"We believe the current process is not in the public's interest and competition is badly needed. We urge the Minister of Transport to finish his talks with the unions and to finally introduce further competition into the public transport area as he promised early last year."
