CBI install Cadbury boss as president

Cadbury Schweppes chairman John Sunderland became the new president of the CBI today and pledged to try to restore the reputation of business in the UK.

The 58-year-old said he wanted to make sure that business was at the heart of policy-making for the next British government,

He said: “I want to use my presidency to re-focus business efforts on restoring corporate reputation.

“It has taken a real battering in recent years and if we don’t put our own house in order, the talented younger generation will simply turn its back on all that business has to offer.”

Mr Sunderland joined Cadbury Schweppes in 1968 and became chief executive in 1996 before taking over as chairman last year.
