Ireland could benefit from EU beef shortage
A conference on beef production in Dublin has heard that Irish farmers are well-placed to benefit from a shortage of beef on continental Europe.
Buyers from all the major retail outlets in Europe are attending the event, which is being hosted by An Bord Bia.
The meeting heard that increased demand and a reduction in cattle numbers on continental Europe had led to a major beef shortage.
However, delegates were also told that Ireland could take advantage of the situation and was capable of meeting more than half of the EU’s beef demand.
