American takeover of Manchester Utd rumoured

An American takeover of Manchester United could be in the pipeline, which would create a €120m windfall for Irish businessmen JP McManus and John Magnier.

A report in this morning’s Sunday Business Post says that Irish financier Dermot Desmond met US sports tycoon Malcolm Glazier earlier this month.

The paper says they discussed the possibility of Mr Desmond selling his 1.5% stake.

Reporter Ed Micheau says McManus and Magnier have always said they will sell their shares.
