Cork goes broadband
High speed, always-on, wireless Internet access has been launched to business and home Internet users in Cork today by Irish Broadband.
The company is now providing Irish Broadband brings business and home Internet users high speed always-on Internet access (upstream as well as downstream) with unlimited connection to the internet from €35 per month.
In November 2003, Irish Broadband was awarded licences in the first round of the new Fixed Wireless Access Local Area (FWALA) in the 3.5 GHz band.
The company said that it intended to respond positively and is fully committed to using all the licences it has been issued with.
The Cork launch is the first part of a nationwide roll out after Dublin.
Irish Broadband obtained a telecommunications licence from the Office of the Director of Telecommunications (ComReg) in mid-July 2002 and began customer connections in August 2002.
Commenting on the development, Jim Barry, Chairman of Irish Broadband and Chief Executive of parent company NTR plc said: "NTR is delighted that the Irish Broadband service is being launched in Cork, with other regional launches to follow quickly.
"The company has performed exceptionally well over the past year and NTR is fully committed to the further development of the business as its expands throughout the country," Barry added.
