June start date for PIAB

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) is expected to be up and running from June 1.

All personal injury claims arising from workplace accidents (where employee is seeking compensation from his/her employer) must be referred to PIAB before legal proceedings are issued.

It is hoped that that through this system, there will be a shift away from the current litigation system to one which will benefit both consumers and businesses alike.

The Tánaiste Mary Harney had confirmed that Dorethea Dowling will be the Chairperson of the new entity while Patricia Byron will be the Chief Executive Officer.
