Airport investment in IT expected to take off

More than 60% of airport IT executives expect increased budgets to boost their IT and telecommunications investment from the current average of 4% of airport revenues, according to a new survey.

Airports Council International (ACI), SITA and Airline Business magazine conducted the survey.

Overall, airports worldwide are estimated to invest approximately $2bn in IT and telecommunications each year.

Director general of ACI Robert J. Aaronson said: "IT is a strategic issue, central to airports worldwide. With this survey we have established a set of benchmarks to track the key trends."
