A newly-launched all-Ireland telecommunications company is claiming it will be the second-biggest player in the landline market by this time next year.

ClubTel is the first phone company to cater for the whole island, and has backing from international telecoms giants Cable and Wireless, and MCI.

A sponsorship deal with the Gaelic Players Association will see 10% of customers' phone bills going towards local GAA clubs.

The GPA's chief executive, Dessie Farrell, says the deal will prove a major benefit to grass roots sport and could raise €7m for local clubs.
