Research under the microscope at Munster showcase
Researchers and industrialists will gather in Cork next week for an industry showcase.
The event will explore the research work currently being undertaken at institutions throughout Munster in the science, engineering and technology fields.
It is being organised by the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET).
Scholars will also compete for the newly-inaugurated Embark IEI Computer Science Research Achievement Award, presented by IRCSET and The Institution of Engineers of Ireland.
The award, for which 11 candidates have been shortlisted, will recognise the achievements of Embark scholarship researchers in this field.
It carries a prize of €3,000.
Among the speakers at the Munster Research Symposium will be Iona Technologies’ Dr Chris Horn and IRCSET Council Member, Professor John Kelly.
Professor Thomas N Mitchell, Chairman of IRCSET, said today: "This event will facilitate interaction between Embark Scholars, fellow academics and industry representatives and will provide attendees with an insight into some of the world-class research being conducted throughout Munster’s third-level institutions.
"Embark-funded researchers are creating and contributing towards the advancement of research excellence in Ireland, resulting in a knowledge-based economy so vital to our society and industry."
