Call for deregulation of Ireland's .ie domain
Eoin Costello, managing director of Register.ie, has called for an immediate study on the deregulation of the .ie domain with the aim of fully deregulating in 18 months time.
It follows yesterday’s announcement that control of Ireland’s .ie domain is to move to the Commission for Communications Regulation.
Mr Costelloe said deregulation would mean a greater take up of the .ie domain, since in America there are 60 million people claiming Irish descent.
He said it would also mean lower prices for the public.
According to Mr Costelloe, an increasing number of European registries have deregulated with predominantly positive results.
