IBM, the world's top provider of computer hardware, has said it has agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to acquire privately held Candle Corp, an El Segundo, California-based company whose offerings are expected to complement Big Blue's middleware solutions.

IBM, the world's top provider of computer hardware, has said it has agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to acquire privately held Candle Corp, an El Segundo, California-based company whose offerings are expected to complement Big Blue's middleware solutions.

The company's service arm is the largest in the world. IBM is also one of the largest providers of both software (ranking numer two, behind Microsoft) and semiconductors.
