Football clubs seized

The Mexico federal attorney general’s office has seized the football clubs Santos and Leon while authorities investigate their owner for money laundering, authorities said.

Carlos Ahumada set off a series of explosive political scandals early this month when he videotaped himself giving city officials wads of cash.

The former city construction contractor claimed he was being extorted, but city officials say companies owned by Ahumada received about $3m (€2.4m) for work that was never done.
