GM Europe say no plans to merge with Adam Opel AG

General Motors Corp has no plans to merge Adam Opel AG with GM's Zurich-based European headquarters, GM Europe head Robert Lutz has said in a pre-release of an interview with weekly German newspaper WirtschaftsWoche.

The interview is due for publication tomorrow.

When asked if he had any plans to merge the two, he said that it was "rather unlikely".

In the next three months, he said he will examine how both companies can work more closely with each other.

He said the company has plans to sell in the US Opel-made cars that will carry the GM brand.

General Motors remains a world leading car and truck manufacturer, with brands such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, and Oldsmobile.

It also has stakes in Isuzu Motors, Fuji Heavy Industries, Suzuki Motor, Fiat, and GM Daewoo Auto & Technology.
