Vodafone expected to submit AT&T offer - report

Today's deadline for US phone company AT&T Wireless is expected to generate at least two competing offers for the $30bn (€23.4bn) business, according to the Financial Times.

According to the paper Vodafone UK and US wireless operator Cingular are both set to submit offers.

The paper added that Vodafone has told some institutional investors it will seek shareholder approval to purchase AT&T Wireless at an extraordinary meeting.

AT&T Wireless put itself up for sale last month after reporting a fourth-quarter loss and set today, 5pm New York time, as a bid deadline.
