A massive £35bn (€51.6bn) takeover bid for the Walt Disney company was launched in the US today by the country’s biggest cable TV company.

A successful deal would make Comcast into one of the world’s largest media companies, combining Disney’s film studio, ABC TV network, ESPN sports network and theme parks with Comcast’s 21 million cable subscribers.
