London Stock Exchange deputy chief steps down

The deputy chief executive of the London Stock Exchange (LSE) Martin Wheatley has resigned after 18 years with the company.

Wheatley had competed against current chief executive Clara Furse for the top job at the LSE three years ago.

The LSE said it had no plans to replace Mr Wheatley, aged 45, and said that his departure was amicable.
