ESB appoints new group finance director

The board of ESB today announced the appointment of Mr Bernard Byrne as group finance director.

Mr Byrne will succeed outgoing group finance director, Mr Tony Donnelly, who was recently appointed deputy chief executive of ESB.

Mr Byrne has served as a non-executive board member of ESB since July 2001 and will resign from this role prior to taking up his new appointment.

He most recently held position of deputy chief executive and group finance director of manufacturing and distribution group IWP International.

He has previously worked for Price Waterhouse and also spent a number of years with ESB International.

ESB's chairman, Mr Tadhg O'Donoghue, stated that he was confident that Mr Byrne's appointment would be very beneficial to ESB in the challenging times ahead.
